Skelmersdale: A New Town is a photographic journey through the social history of this former new town, Skelmersdale.
The project aims to generate a sense of recognition and understanding of the new town’s past, at a point of change within the town’s history, as its town centre is about to be redeveloped.
The town never offered a utopia, but it did offer hope, and it’s hope that provides a direction for this project as we discover earlier experiences from people living in the town, with those of today, and through seeing what has changed, can try to understand how the town has aged over this time.
We want people who live in Skelmersdale, or used to, to be part of this project, you can contribute a photograph, we can arrange to meet you, or get in touch and we can discuss other forms of collaboration, that can be added to this collection.
